Hello neighbours,
It has been a busy few weeks at City Hall and across Ward Métis! Edmonton continues to be experiencing record growth, with more than 100,000 people moving here over the last two years - the equivalent of adding the entire population of Red Deer to our City every two years.
We are working hard to accommodate that dramatic growth with all of the services, infrastructure, and programming necessary to support existing and new residents. This was a major focus during our spring budget adjustment, which was unanimously supported by City Council.
While we should be focused on working together to use this growth to build a stronger city, unfortunately, the provincial government introduced Bill 18 and Bill 20, which propose unprecedented changes to the rules governing how Cities can operate. This includes limiting our ability to tap into federal funding for important city projects and programs, and introducing political parties into local government. Learn more about Council's advocacy to have both bills rescinded below.
In this newsletter, you can also learn about upcoming events in the ward, items coming to Council, like District Planning, and recent decisions and motions made at Council.
Finally, spring is in the air, and unfortunately, so it wildfire smoke. In this newsletter, learn what the City is doing to support wildfire preparedness.
All the best,
Ashley
